Testing Methods

Put the yeast sample into a bottle of Easygel ® diluent. A round wooden toothpick can be used to procure a yeast specimen from a culture. With care, lightly touch the toothpick to a yeast colony; a barely visable amount of the organism should be on the end of the tooth pick. Swirl the end of the tooth pick with the organism into a 30ml bottle of Easygel ® diluent.
Put the ingredient sample into the Amber Low pHor Red: High pH Easygel ® mould media. Shake vigorously several times and allow to stand until the ingredient has dissolved. If the ingredient sample clumps, allow it to remain standing an appropriate time for hydrolyzation of the Easygel ® and reshake the sampl;e.

Control Sample

Using a sterile dropper or pipette, draw a yeast sample from the Easygel ® diluent.

Drop 3-5 drops (the recommended amount of yeast sample that should be used in a bottle of Easygel ® mould media) from the pipette into the Easygel ® mould media bottle with the ingredient sample and into a bottle of Easygel ® mould media with no sample, as the control.

Control and ingredient samples should receive the same number of drops.

The Easygel ® mould media should bottles then be poured into Easygel ® coated petri dishes*.

* If the sample is thick additionl Easygel ® mould media may be added to the petri dish for a deeper culture.
